Recreational and Environmental Board. Is now part of the Planning Commission Board

Purpose; duties. The purposes of the board are to make recommendations to the City Commission on plans for parks and recreational facilities and make recommendations to the City Commission on environmental concerns of citizens of Valparaiso. The duties of the board include:

1) participate in long-range and strategic planning of parks, recreational facilities and open space for the comprehensive plan

2) determine recreational needs of the City through citizen participation

3) make recommendations to the City Commission on improvements to parks based on recreational needs

4) identify environmental issues according to federal, state and county guidelines

5) gather data on environmental problem areas and conduct research to pinpoint reason for problem

6) make recommendation to the City Commission on appropriate solution plans

7) promote environmental education and awareness

8) promote cleanup of common areas in the City of Valparaiso

Composition; term. The board shall consist of seven members; the term of each member shall be for two years.
