The doors of the Valparaiso Community Library opened in 1973 under the leadership of Library Board president Fannie Fern Davis and Library Director Louise Kiisel Fitzgarrald with the intention of being the cultural and intellectual center for the community.
In the late 1970s the library expanded its modest collection to include genealogy research. The library also contains over 41,000 circulating items including DVDs, Blu-rays, music CDs, audio books, popular fiction and non-fiction books.
In 2007 the library was awarded a state library construction grant. The renovation and expansion project included a newly designed interior, children's area, new shelving, remodeled restrooms, office spaces, and conference room. Today the library strives to provide the highest level of service with educational and technological based programs for patrons of all ages. The library has been a proud member of the Okaloosa County Public Library Cooperative since 2002 with the mission of serving the citizens of Okaloosa County with universal access to information, technology, and education.
