Internet Use Policy

The Internet, a worldwide network, is an essential medium for obtaining and transmitting information. However, it is unregulated and also provides access to information that is inaccurate, illegal or that some may find controversial. Valparaiso Community Libraries free wireless network or the internet provided for computers is not a secure network. 

A patron may not attempt to damage or corrupt the any library equipment or software: engage in any activity that is harassing or defamatory; download information into the computers' hard drive; change system or browser settings or use the Internet for any illegal activity, including violation or copyright or other rights of the third parities; or in a manner inconsistent with Library's tax-exempt status or its proper operation. Patrons are reminded that the library's computer terminals are located in public areas that are shared with library users and staff of all ages. backgrounds and sensibilities. Individuals are expected to consider this diversity and respect the sensibilities of others when accessing potentially offensive information or images.

The library does not provide staff to instruct internet users during their sign-up time. This service is intended for independent use. However, since Library staff members are no able to provide in-depth computer assistance we will answer questions and, as time allows, help users locate and use resources on the Internet or on other electronic resources in the library. A basic introduction to the Internet is offered on request. Please speak to a library staff member about scheduling a session.

A Patron is responsible for their misbehavior on the computes and must abide by the guidelines set by the library for the use of the computer.
